met officeThe annual Meteorological Society student conference is an opportunity for PhD students and young Met Office scientists to present their work to an audience.  As well as talks from delegates there are three invited speakers.  There is also a discussion session where we discuss a couple of topics relating to climate change.

The conference is also a good way to meet other scientists at the same stage of their career.  The atmosphere is normally relaxed, so this is the perfect opportunity to give a talk if you have never presented at a conference before.  It is also great fun, there is a conference dinner and ice breaker activities on the first night, so there is plenty of opportunity to meet other young scientists.

You are invited to submit an abstract to any of the sessions listed below or to the poster session.  There is a prize available for the best poster.  There is also a discussion session where we discuss a couple of topics relating to climate change.  It is also great fun, there is a conference dinner and ice breaker activities on the first night, so there is plenty of opportunity to meet other young scientists.

The probable session titles are listed below, although you should not be put off if you think your abstract doesn't fit exactly into one of these sessions. We normally get a wide variety of abstracts related to meteorology and the sessions may need to be changed to accommodate the abstracts we receive.

  • Data assimilation and observations
  • Atmospheric chemistry and composition
  • Upscale and downscaling models and high resolution modelling
  • Oceanography
  • Climate dynamics
  • Climate variability
  • Weather and small scale features
  • Forecastability and ensemble prediction
  • Hydrology

There is also a poster session, you are encouraged to submit a poster on any relevant topic.
