Concessions, Direct Debits and Reciprocal Agreements

Direct Debit

Payment by Direct Debit may be made annually, half-yearly or quarterly. If you opt for half-yearly or quarterly payments, the first instalment will be taken on or immediately after 1st January. A subsequent payment will be taken in July for those paying half-yearly, and remaining quarterly payments will be taken in April, July and October. Please note that payment by Direct Debit is available to members with UK bank accounts only.

If you are an existing Direct Debit payer who wishes to continue to pay by their existing agreement you do not need to do anything. If you wish to set up a new Direct Debit, or are an existing Direct Debit payer who wishes to make amendments to their existing agreement, please download and complete a new Direct Debit mandate and return either by post or email to the Membership Secretary.

Please note that all requests to pay by Direct Debit or changes need to be received by 16th December at the latest.  Any changes received after that date will be unable to be processed to be effective for next year’s renewal.

Concessionary Rates

Any member who has been a Fellow or Member for at least 20 years (including time as a Foreign Member prior to 1983) and does not work for remuneration, is entitled on written application to pay 50% of the annual subscription with no curtailment of privileges. Such members may also receive The Society’s journal publications at 50% of the rate for members.

Members under the age of 18 on 1st January of the current year, and students, are also entitled to the concessionary rate (a 50% reduction in annual fees). Student members who have recently graduated can take advantage of an Early Career Discount which extends this reduction for 3 years after graduation.

Reciprocal Agreements

The Society has reached reciprocal agreements with the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society, the American Meteorological Society, the Australian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society, the Indian Meteorological Society, the Royal Photographic Society and the Institute of Physics. Members of any of these Societies are eligible for a discount on the full Member rate; proof of membership may be required. Members paying the discounted rate will not receive a paper copy of Weather but will have free access to Weather online.
