Record Heat and High Winds in Australia cause Wildfires

Australia is suffering from extremely high temperatures with wildfires burning out of control in several areas. More than 130 fires are currently burning in New South Waes and an uncontrolled fire is burning on the Tasman peninsula, near areas already hit by fires at the weekend.

Shane Fitzsimmons New South Wales Rural Fire Service Commissioner, said "We have still got many hours of hot, dry, difficult conditions ahead of us”

In New South Wales, four areas have been given a "catastrophic" rating for fire danger. This means that if fires break out, residents should leave, as they will be uncontrollable and fast moving.

The Australian Bureau of Meteorology has issued a special climate statement on the extreme heat
