Advancing Collaboration between the Insurance Sector and Academia
LOCATION
Whiteknights, Reading RG6 6AH
This workshop offers a platform for researchers in the insurance and catastrophe modelling industries to share their ongoing research and associated challenges with other natural catastrophe researchers such as academics and those in climate services. Through presentations that spotlight active projects in the insurance sector, this event will enhance transparency of research methods, as well as encourage the development of networks, funding opportunities, and tools to address topical questions collaboratively within academic and industry groups.
Focusing on peril modelling relevant to Europe, the workshop will specifically address windstorms, flooding, convective storms, and heatwaves/droughts/wildfires. Much of the day will be dedicated to open discussion, with time set aside for networking opportunities, and early career engagement.
To facilitate the attendance of a wide variety of academics working in weather and climate—and thereby further promote partnerships and collaboration—there will be a registration fee for industry participants. This fee is set at £50 for RMetS members, and £80 for non-members. The registration fee for academics, whether RMetS member or non-member is £0. The number of places for this workshop is limited, and to ensure that a balance of perspectives is present we are limiting the number of industry participants to two per company. We also request that, of these two, one is a more junior team member.
A list of speakers will be confirmed nearer the time, but there will be contributions from AON Impact Forecasting, JBA Risk Management, Fathom, and Guy Carpenter.
