MEETING TITLE | Atmospheric Modelling and Health Impact Assessment: From the Urban Heat Island to air pollution episodes.
ABSTRACT | Dr Helen Macintyre will talk about using atmospheric modelling to perform Health Impact Assessments (HIA) relating to the urban heat island, particularly during heatwave events, and also air pollution episodes in the UK.
BIOGRAPHY | Dr Helen Macintyre has broad research interests in Earth, atmospheric, and environmental sciences. After obtaining a masters in Geological Sciences from the University of Cambridge, she pursued a PhD in Atmospheric Chemistry at the University of Leeds. She then worked as a postdoc at MIT in Boston, and now works at the Centre for Radiation Chemical and Environmental Hazards at Public Health England. Her research experience includes using global and regional numerical models of the atmosphere to understand environmental issues such as air pollution and the Urban Heat Island. She now works primarily in the field of climate change and human health.
