Antarctic sea ice has long been something of an enigma. For many years it defied the background trend of climate change by increasing in extent, but since 2016 Antarctic sea ice extent has plummeted - with scientists scrambling to understand why. 2023 was a truly exceptional year for sea ice, dropping to previously uncharted lows. In this talk, I will walk you through why that was, including the links to climate change and implications for the future.
Speaker
Dr Ella Gilbert, Regional Climate Modeller, British Antarctic Survey, Cambridge
