Diverse Voices: Climate and health
LOCATION
Join us for the next event in our ‘Diverse Voices’ online series! These informal conversations are helping to amplify and celebrate the diversity of scientists working in and around the field of weather and climate in the UK. In this session, we will hear from two people who work at the intersection of climate and health. They will talk about their background and journey to where they are today. Please Join us to learn about our speakers’ paths and to ask any questions you may have about following in their footsteps!
Speakers
Dr Eunice Lo, Cabot Institute for the Environment and Elizabeth Blackwell Institute for Health Research, University of Bristol
Eunice is a climate scientist whose research focuses on extreme weather and its impacts on human health. She investigates changes in heatwaves, cold snaps, and other hazards between different time periods and climate change scenarios, including counterfactual ones for forming impact attribution statements. Eunice’s work utilises weather and climate observations, large ensembles, and health models. To complement modelling, she also surveys people’s lived experience of extreme weather. She was a contributing author in the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report and held an honorary position at the UK Health Security Agency for two years.
Dr Ruksana Haque Rimi
Ruksana completed a DPhil degree in 2019 from the University of Oxford, with her research focused on anthropogenic climate change and extreme weather events. One of her DPhil papers won the 60th anniversary Taylor & Francis Commonwealth Scholar Best Journal Article Prize and her work on attribution of extreme weather events has been cited in the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report. Before that she completed a MSc in Climate Change Science from the University of East Anglia, with both of her MSc and DPhil degrees funded by the prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship. Before pursuing her higher studies, she completed BSc and MSc degrees in Environmental Sciences from Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh.
