ABSTRACT | The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) is an independent intergovernmental organisation supported by 34 states. ECMWF is both a research institute and a 24/7 operational service, providing forecasts for member states. This talk will provide an overview of the centre and key operations, with a focus on a new ambitious proposal to monitor human CO2 emissions using state-of-the-art numerical modelling and synthetic observations based on future satellite missions.
