Mountain Meteorology: Climate Change and Forecasting Perspectives
LOCATION
Dynamic Earth
Holyrood Road
Edinburgh EH8 8AS
Discover the awe-inspiring beauty of mountains and the challenges they face in our rapidly changing climate. Join us for an eye-opening event that explores the impacts of climate change on mountain environments and the vital importance of understanding and predicting mountain weather and climate.
With over forty percent of the world’s population relying on mountain resources for drinking water, agriculture, biodiversity, and hydroelectricity, it’s essential to stay ahead of the curve. The ‘Mountain Meteorology’ event brings together three complementary areas of expertise.
Delve into the main aspects of climate change and its consequences for mountain habitats, which are particularly vulnerable to its effects. Then, gain a forecaster’s perspective on the unpredictability of mountain weather prediction. The session concludes with a personal account from a mountaineer and forecaster, sharing their experiences of mountain habitats in the UK.
Don’t miss this opportunity to gain insight into the natural world and how we can help these vital environments continue to thrive.
