

National and International Climate Policy
LOCATION
In this talk, Piers will share his experience working with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and chairing the UK Climate Change Committee (CCC). He will discuss the current political environment, progress towards national and international climate goals, and present results from the CCC's latest 7th Carbon Budget Report. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.

Piers Forster is the interim Chair of the Climate Change Committee (CCC). He was appointed to the role in June 2023 and has served on the Committee since December 2018. He is also Professor of Physical Climate Change and founding Director of the Priestley Centre for Climate Futures at the University of Leeds.
Piers is an atmospheric physicist known for his research on the causes of climate change and the climate response of the Earth system. His work is used to assess climate impacts and guide mitigation strategies. He has played significant roles authoring Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports, including the Fourth (2007), Fifth (2013) and Sixth (2021) assessment reports and the IPCC Special Report on 1.5°C (2018).
