Lorraine Whitmarsh, Professor of Environmental Psychology and Director of the Centre for Climate Change and Social Transformations, explained the importance of behavioural change in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, explore the barriers that exist for changing behaviours and how we can overcome these.
Saffron O’Neill, Professor in Climate & Society at the University of Exeter, then covered the complexities and challenges of communicating climate change effectively, some barriers that hinder understanding/action, how we can effectively communicate climate change and the role of digital communication.
Helen Roberts, Socio-Meteorologist at the Met Office chaired the event.
Each talk lasted approximately 45 minutes, followed by 10-15 minutes for questions and discussion with the expert.
The event was aimed at a general audience and open to all.
