

Stepping into Success: A Conversation with Recent Graduates

Emma and Amelia will discuss how they got into their careers, in both the public and private sector, after completing their Environmental Science degrees. They will discuss what pathways were available to them and what their job entails on a day-to-day basis.
Emma will discuss how the Northeast are tackling flooding and explain how observed and forecast hydrological and meteorological data is used to inform incident management at the Environment Agency. Amelia will also focus on the importance of sustainable agriculture and highlight the varied workload she experiences as an Environmental Consultant.
Speakers
Emma Downey – Emma is a Flood Risk Officer, on the Environment and Science Graduate Scheme, at the Environment Agency in the Northeast. Emma studied Environmental Science at the University of East Anglia where she developed an interest in climate change and policy, applied meteorology and sustainability. Her role within the Environment Agency involves working with Lead Local Flood Authorities to develop and deliver an extensive capital programme to reduce flood risk in the Northeast. Emma is also a graduate member of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management.
Amelia Weatherall – Amelia is an Agricultural-Environmental Consultant at Brown&Co in Norwich. Amelia joined Brown&Co after graduating from the University of East Anglia with a BSc degree in Environmental Science where she focused on meteorological processes and sustainable land management. As a consultant. she now helps develop and implement different levels of Environmental Land Management schemes on farms throughout the East Anglia which encourages sustainable farming practices and collaboration.
