

Understanding the Weather and Climate Context of 2023

How did the weather of 2023 compare to long-term climate records for the UK? Authors from the annual ‘State of the UK Climate’ report will present their key messages on what the latest observations tell us about our changing climate, sea levels and storm surges, and how nature’s response is being monitored.
Experts will delve into some of the extreme events of 2023 and their impacts in the UK. With this meeting falling on the 37th anniversary of the ‘Great Storm’ of October 1987, these events include Storm Ciarán, which had some remarkable similarities to the Great Storm.
