VIRTUAL MEETING | Air Quality and Health Impacts of the Saddleworth Moor and Australian wildfires
LOCATION
UPDATE: Registration is now closed.
SPEAKER | Ailish Graham - PhD Student, School of Earth and Environment, University of Leeds
ABSTRACT | Under the effects of climate change wildfires are likely to become more common in many regions of the world. This talk will focus on two case-studies: the Saddleworth Moor Wildfire in 2018 and the Australian megafires of 2019/2020. Large wildfires in the UK have been relatively rare in the past so little is known about their potential impacts on air quality and human health. Though wildfires in Australia are relatively common, the 2019/2020 mega-fires were of an unprecedented scale and had detrimental impacts on ecosystems, livelihoods, and air quality. In this talk I will discuss the impacts of these two fires on air quality and human health.
This was a 45-minute talk followed by a 15 minute Q&A. The meeting was open from 6:50 pm for attendees to join and the event started promptly at 7:00pm.
