ABSTRACT | Exposure to air pollution is the biggest environmental health risk globally. Clean air is essential for sustainable development. In this talk, I explored the connection of air pollution to various sustainable development goals set by the United Nations, discussed the challenges in mitigating air pollution in the developed and developing countries and show the way forward to deal with this problem.
BIOGRAPHY |
Dr. Sagnik Dey is an Institute Chair Professor at the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, India. Prior to joining IIT Delhi, he received his MSc. in Applied Geoscience from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, M. Tech. and PhD from IIT Kanpur, India and worked as a Postdoctoral Scientist at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA.
Dr. Dey has worked extensively on air quality, climate change and health impacts. He is the coordinator of the Centre of Excellence for Research on Clean Air (CERCA) and is an associate faculty of School of Public Policy at IIT Delhi. He is a member of WHO Southeast Asia non-communicable diseases Regional Technical Advisory group, served as an expert member of WHO "Global Platform on Air Quality and Health" and is a science team member of NASA's upcoming MAIA satellite mission.
This was a 30 minute talk followed by a 15 minute Q&A session.
