VIRTUAL | Seasonal Selections from 2021
LOCATION
Virtual Meeting
For the final talk of 2021, members of the Yorkshire Local Centre, including the newly elected chair Sarah Barr, covered all the highs, and lows, that 2021 had to offer. Seasonal statistics for the UK was discussed, followed by an in-depth look into four particularly notable events of 2021 including: a particularly wet 2020/2021 for the north east; a sudden temperature swing from unseasonably warm to unseasonably cold in the spring; the catastrophic European floods of the summer and their climate attribution; and finally the recent named storm Arwen which triggered a red wind warning from the Met Office and left thousands without pawer for days. The causes and impacts of these events were discussed. The event took place on Demio at our usual time of 7PM on the 15th December with some festive treats as we rounded out the year.
