Fellow Dudley Shallcross awarded OBE for science education
Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS), Professor Dudley Shallcross has been awarded an OBE in the King’s 2024 Birthday Honours List, for his contributions to science education.
Professor Shallcross has been a valued member of the Society since 1998, sharing its aim to strengthen the science and raise awareness of meteorology.
Shortly after beginning a teaching career at the University of Bristol as a lecturer in chemistry, Professor Shallcross found his lifelong passion for nurturing science talent in children. A decade later his public engagement activities on the Earth’s climate system were recognised by the Royal Meteorological Society via the Michael Hunt Award.
Nominating his colleague for the accolade in 2009, Professor Michael Ashfold noted, “he has ably demonstrated that it is possible to combine a highly successful career in both research and public engagement. Dudley Shallcross is a worthy recipient of an award that commemorates Michael Hunt’s own enthusiastic communication of meteorology.”
Shallcross has not one, but two Society Awards to his name. In 2012, the Professor was subsequently bestowed with the Adrian Gill Award for his interdisciplinary work related to meteorology.
The Society congratulates Professor Shallcross OBE for his valuable achievements in science education.
