The passing of Dr Peter Curtis

3 February 2023

The Society is sad to hear of the passing of one of our long-serving members, Dr Peter Curtis. Peter was a Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society, having joined in 1977. He was known to many at the Society as both a friend and a colleague.

Peter held a number of significant roles throughout his career, from the Oxford University Department of Atmospheric Physics, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, through to working at the Met Office as the director of the Remote Sensing and Instrumentation branch between 1989 and 1996, until he retired early and then worked as a consultant.

He passed away whilst visiting family in New Zealand. His wife plans to return home with Peter’s ashes and to celebrate his life when she returns to the UK.

It is requested that flowers are not sent, but if anyone would like to donate in Peter’s memory, please visit the Mikron Theatre Company at mikron.org.uk/support-us/donateIf using UK Bank Transfer, use Peter Curtis as the reference, or by card using the Donate button on their website, write a comment to say the donation is in Peter’s Memory. Peter was an enthusiastic supporter of the Mikron Theatre Company for over 30 years.
