Process for RMet

A tailored framework allows you to easily record developmental activities. You can gradually build on this throughout your career to demonstrate your commitment to professional development

1. Complete your application

The main parts of the application are recording your CPD activities, appraisal of your career, and providing evidence for how you meet the 5 key competencies. Compiling your CPD record can take time, but do not be put off by the first step – once this part is complete, there is not much more admin involved, besides attend the workplace assessment.

2. Requirements verified

The society will check your submission and will seek references from your nominated referees.

3. Workplace assessment

The Society will arrange for you to be assessed, usually at your place of work, by a panel of two or three assessors. If possible, at least one of these will be someone senior from your organisation.

4. Accreditation as a RMet

Following your assessment, your application will be considered and decided by the Accreditation Board. On becoming a fully accredited meteorologist you will be issued a certificate, and will receive a kite-mark to include in all your work including emails and presentations.

5. Renewal

Each year your CPD will need to be renewed. Simply just keep your CPD record up-to-date throughout the year. This makes it easy to generate a report at the time of renewal. The panel will review it, and you can continuing practicing as a chartered meteorologist.
