VIRTUAL | Student and Early Career Scientists Conference 2021

DATE

Monday 28 - Tuesday 29 June 2021

Add Event to Calendar: Google

LOCATION

Virtual Meeting

The Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS) Virtual Student & Early Career Scientists Conference will take place on the 28th and 29th June 2021. The annual student conference provides an excellent opportunity for undergraduate students, Masters and PhD students and young scientists to present their work in a friendly environment. There were keynote speakers and poster sessions alongside sessions for oral presentations.

On Sunday 27th June, join the students for an evening social with a chance to meet your fellow delegates in advance of the conference.

On Thursday 1st July, for conference delegates only, we ran a Careers Clinic. This was a unique opportunity for those with an interest in journalism or who want to learn more about science careers outside of academia. Hear from the team at Carbon Brief about their career paths and get the opportunity to ask questions.

Grants and Funding

Conference Access Fund

The conference access fund is designed to assist individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds and who are engaged in research projects related to weather and climate, focusing on the science and its application, to attend and participate actively in this scientific conference. The fund is available to support any individual where financial support from their institution, a research grant, or other funding bodies is not available to help them attend the conference.

For full terms and conditions and how to apply, please download the PDF on this page.

Legacies Funding

If you have been a member of the Royal Meteorological Society for more than 12 months you can apply for funding to cover the cost of attending the Conference from the Society’s Legacy Fund.  Membership to the Royal Meteorological Society comes with a free subscription to Weather magazine, discounts and a host of other benefits.

The Legacies Fund is made up of small monetary grants made to members (usually younger scientists) to help finance expeditions, carry our research or attend meteorological conferences, for which adequate funds are not otherwise
