Could you be our next Student Ambassador?

31 August 2023

This year we have taken time to collate feedback, review, and make improvements to our Student Ambassador Scheme, which aims to link the Royal Meteorological Society with universities and research institutions across the UK. Student Ambassadors support the Society by increasing awareness about membership and activities within their networks, whilst also helping to engage with students who have an interest in weather and/or climate as a science, profession, or general interest.

Open to undergraduate, master's, and PhD students in the UK, the RMetS Student Ambassador role involves dedicating a maximum of four hours each month to Ambassador related activities. These activities will include promoting and raising awareness about the RMetS and the broader weather and climate sector, contributing ideas to enhance RMetS and its membership benefits for students, and representing the RMetS in one career event per year at their institution.

In return, each Student Ambassador gains experience in the field, expands their network, boosts their confidence and CV, develops their written and communication skills, and benefits from free RMetS student membership.

Ahead of relaunching the RMetS Student Ambassador Scheme this autumn, we are seeking over 15 new Student Ambassadors at various UK universities and research institutions. If you are currently studying at a UK university, have an interest in weather and/or climate, and are interested in becoming an RMetS Student Ambassador, you can find out more and apply for the volunteering opportunity.
