About the Competition

Now in its 8th year, Standard Chartered Weather Photographer of the Year showcases the world’s most striking weather and climate photographs and provides an international platform to raise awareness about the environmental issues putting our planet at risk. This annual competition is open to photographers of all ages and abilities, including professionals and amateurs, and is completely free to enter. The 2023 competition and public vote is now closed.

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing the world today, and its impact on the environment and human health significantly affects sustainable economic growth and the future of society. The competition, hosted by the Royal Meteorological Society, provides an ongoing commentary on the fragility and beauty of the planet. The winners will be announced on 5th October from 7am on the Royal Meteorological Society's Instagram channel: @rmets_ and on this website.

The Royal Meteorological Society’s 2024 awe-inspiring wall calendar features all the winners and finalists from the 2023 competition. The photos are displayed with a dated grid, including UK holidays, meteorological seasons, minimum & maximum temperatures for every day of the year, monthly averages for temperatures, rainfall and sunshine, moon phases and sunrise and sunset time (UK).
