Navigating Climate Challenges in Insurance

A spread of three RMetS insurance reports with blue and orange covers

As the leading independent expert in weather and climate, the Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS) provides data and intelligence to sectors and organisations whose business depends on understanding weather and climate trends.

These latest reports stem from a pan-industry workshop held in 2024. The workshop was attended by delegates from a wide range of organisations operating at the insurance and weather-climate interface.

The bundle of reports includes:

  1. Summary Report: Navigating Climate Challenges in Insurance. This document takes the key findings from our open discussion, breaking this down into (i) Key Insurance Sector challenges from both a risk and modelling perspective, (ii) Bridging Gaps in Communication and Understanding, and (iii) Solutions and Applications for the Insurance Sector.
  2. Current and Future Applications of Climate Models in Insurance. In this document, we highlight what current usable information can be taken from climate models.
  3. Pathways to Successful Collaboration Between the (Re)Insurance Industry and Academia. The final document highlights the benefits of current academic/industry collaborations and what exchange of information can be helpful to both parties with improved collaborations in the future
