Gifts in Wills
Did you know over 75% of RMetS income comes from subscriptions and publications?
This gives us short-term security but limits our ability to grow our impact in the world.
We’re working to ensure that weather and climate is taught in schools so that future generations understand the impact the weather has on their lives. With your support, we can grow our influence, provide high quality knowledge and inspire the next generation.
A gift in your Will can make this happen.
Imagine. You are 17 years old and live in the UK. For years you have noticed the severe changes in weather patterns and want to know more about what’s causing them. How does climate change affect the weather? How does it affect sea levels and food production
Everyone is talking about it. There isn’t much opportunity to learn about meteorology in school – how can I find out more and train as a meteorologist?
Now imagine a bursary/award funded by gifts in Wills from RMetS: access to experts, journals, a mentor, and attending conferences with some of the world’s leading meteorologists.
Imagine. You’re an international student with plans to study meteorology at University. You’ve seen first-hand how weather extremes are impacting communities like your own and are determined to pursue a career that can make a real difference.
Now imagine being given an opportunity to come to the UK, with a bursary to fund your travel and costs. You will have access to a mentor, gain qualifications and build a professional network that supports you to develop your career in meteorology. Imagine how this knowledge can influence change and build a stronger global community of meteorologists.
Our goal is to attract the next generation of meteorologists into the profession and support them as they develop their early career. With your help we can make this possible.
Knowledge is everything. And our aim is to give that knowledge, through high-quality education and science, to students everywhere.
When the time is right for you to remember a charity in your Will please do not forget the Royal Meteorological Society.
Your gift will help build a stronger global community of meteorologists.
What gifts can I leave?
The choice is yours, but these are the most common:
- A % of your wealth which can be from 1% (so your loved ones inherit 99%) to 100% whatever suits your personal circumstances.
- A cash sum (but this will not keep up with inflation)
- Shares – which can help reduce the Capital Gains Tax payable. This gift can also be done in your lifetime.
Inheritance Tax savings
Inheritance tax is likely to change in coming years, but if you currently leave a gift worth £10,000 to RMetS, your estate might well save up to £4,000 tax and if you leave more than 10% of your estate to charities then the tax levy is reduced from 40% to 36%. Please always seek advice from a professional regarding inheritance tax and leaving a gift in your Will.
What information will your professional adviser need to ensure your gift is fulfilled?
Our Registered charity number: 208222
Our registered charity name: The Royal Meteorological Society
The only decision you have to make is the type of gift you would like to make.
Do you need advice on Wills?
As a charity, we cannot give legal advice. If you already have a Will, but is long overdue for some simple changes, ask your solicitor about“A Letter of Wishes” – it is often an easy way to update your Will and at little cost.
If you do not have a Will and want help finding a local solicitor we can send you a list from which to choose.
