Diverse Voices: Introduction to the Series
LOCATION
Virtual - Hosted on Zoom
Join us for the first in our ‘Diverse Voices’ online series! These informal conversations will help to amplify and celebrate the diversity of scientists working in and around the field of weather and climate in the UK. In this session, we will introduce the series and its format, so come along to learn more and to hear from and ask questions of some of RMetS’ Early Careers leading on this initiative!
Speakers
Regan Mudhar, University of Exeter & Royal Meteorological Society
Regan graduated from Bristol University with a MSci in physics with astrophysics, before working in finance for a couple of years. Regan returned to academia and started a PhD in 2021, looking at the stratospheric pathway and far-flung influences on mid-latitude climate and weather extremes. Alongside this, Regan supports RMetS as the science engagement fellow for youth and early careers, a role which includes developing new initiatives to better engage with and support people of colour in the field, which will be described in more detail in this event.
Ashar Aslam, University of Leeds
Ashar graduated from the University of Oxford in 2021 with an MEarthSci in Earth Sciences. Ashar then started a PhD at the University of Leeds, looking at processes which influence rainfall patterns across southeast Asia. In addition to the PhD, Ashar is, and has been, involved in various EDI initiatives both within academia (geoscience outreach, accessibility to PhDs) and outside (action plans within the charitable sector).
The event will be chaired by Ella Clarke, Head of Partnerships at RMetS and co-chair of the RMetS Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Working Group.
