Meteorology to Methane... How did I get here?

DATE

Wednesday 19 October 2022
19:00 - 20:00

Add Event to Calendar: Google

LOCATION

School of Earth and Environment
University of Leeds
Leeds LS2 9JT

Ever wondered what it was like to work as a meteorologist? Or what it’s like to change career path to a different field? Emily discussed her experiences and challenges she faced as an Offshore Meteorologist in Aberdeen and why she made the jump to go into researching atmospheric methane.

Speaker

Emily Dowd

I am a 3rd year PhD student at the University of Leeds and my research is focused on investigating local and global methane sources using satellites. I have an MPhys Physics with Meteorology degree from the University of Edinburgh and worked as an Offshore meteorologist in Aberdeen for 2 years before starting my PhD. Alongside my PhD, I am also the co-founder of an Earth Observation outreach programme call SatSchool which we are starting to take into schools across the UK to highlight STEM pathways. Outside of work I love everything outdoors and on the weekends you will often find me surfing, bouldering, cycling or hill walking depending on the weather.
