RMetS Accreditation – is it for me?
LOCATION
Perhaps you’ve seen the ‘accreditation’ page on the RMetS website, or heard ‘professional accreditation’ mentioned by lecturers at your university or managers in your workplace – but what is it? Who can become accredited? What are the benefits? What is involved in accreditation? If you’re a student or early career studying or working in and around the field of weather and climate, join us to learn the answers to these questions and and find out if accreditation could be for you! We will also explain what continuing professional development is, why it is important, and how RMetS supports professionally accredited members maintain their CPD records.
Speakers
Sharon Stephens, Membership and Accreditation Manager, RMetS
Sharon joined the Society as Membership and Accreditation Manager in March 2020 and is responsible for strengthening engagement with members as well as promoting Professional Accreditation to increase CMet and RMet amongst the meteorological community. She has extensive experience working at a senior level across multi-disciplinary industry sectors including working as the Head of Membership for both the UK Chamber of Shipping and Chartered Institute of Building.
Dr David Flack FRMetS, CMet, Regional Model Evaluation Scientist, Met Office
David has had a strong passion for meteorology since 2007. He did his undergraduate degree at the University of Reading on the MMet Meteorology with a year in Oklahoma course graduating in 2013. Following his undergraduate David completed his PhD and a short post-doc both at the University of Reading on behaviour of convective-scale ensembles. Following his post-doc at Reading, David moved to Paris for two years as a post-doc based at ENS (École Normale Supérieure) as part of the Laboratoire de Météorologie Dynamique (LMD). At LMD he evaluated extra-tropical cyclones in climate models from a process-based perspective. In March 2020 David joined the Regional Model Evaluation and Development team at the Met Office, where he is currently based. His role includes the process-based evaluation of new regional model configurations for the Met Office, creating new process-based diagnostics, and identifying model errors and their causes. He works very closely with the Met Office Operational Meteorologists, Met Office partners, and has collaborations with NOAA. He became a Chartered Meteorologist in June 2023.
Regan Mudhar, Science Engagement Fellow, Youth and Early Careers, RMetS
Regan graduated from Bristol University with a MSci in physics with astrophysics, before working in finance for a couple of years. They returned to academia and started a PhD in 2021, looking at the stratospheric pathway linking polar climate to mid-latitude climate and weather extremes. Alongside this, they support RMetS as the science engagement fellow for youth and early careers.
