First referred to as Tropical Depression 26W, it strengthened into a typhoon soon after. Weather Hurricane Florence 18 September 2018 Hurricane Florence classified as the first major hurricane of the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane season. Its formation started in the end of August, when a a strong low air pressure system formed over Western Africa passing westwards. Weather Witnessing extreme weather events from space 18 September 2018 Satellites have been used for decades to monitor changes of the Earth’s surface. This includes the impacts of extreme weather events such as wildfires, severe storms or droughts. Weather 2018-2019 Storm Names 12 September 2018 The Met Office and Met Eireann have released their storm names for season 2018/2019. Weather Heatwaves and Drought in the UK 18 July 2018 The UK has experienced over 16 consecutive days of temperatures at or exceeding 28°C between June and early July this year. A record breaking series of wildfires have burned across parts of Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Northern Ireland and Wales. I have always been aware of this – but experiencing this climate difference within one day was truly fascinating.
