In November 1965 the Met Office launched its first operational NWP system with a big press conference. This event really marked the transition of the Met Office from a “wait and see” secondary position in NWP to its current world-leading position. This RMetS National meeting will mark the 50th anniversary of that event, with a look back to events leading up to 1965, progress in operational NWP since then, and challenges and opportunities for the future.
In addition to the RMetS National Meeting, the Met Office is hosting an evening celebration of this milestone at Exeter HQ on the day from 17:30-19:00 in ‘the Street’ including drinks, posters and exhibits. All RMetS meeting attendees are invited to attend.
This is a joint meeting between The Royal Meteorology Society and the Met Office. Non members are welcome to attend this meeting.
