Communities around the world are increasingly being exposed to environmental stressors, from the impacts of climate change to so-called ‘natural’ disasters. This presentation will detail the results of several international research projects investigating how communities of all kinds are, or are not, resilient to environmental stressors. This includes research investigating tsunami response in Vanuatu in the South Pacific, the impacts of climate change in the Peruvian Andes and risk mapping of a potential future UK tsunami.
The presentation will also detail future PhD research plans to investigate how climate change is impacting small island communities. This will explore new and novel methods to deliver quantitative and qualitative understandings of community vulnerability to multiple complex hazards in uncertain times.
