Designed by Thomas Stevenson a British civil engineer a Stevenson Screen or more commonly known simply as a Thermometer Screen is an enclosure to shield meteorological instruments against precipitation and direct heat radiation from outside sources, It forms a crucial part of any weather station allowing thermometers or electronic sensors to measure temperature and humidity in a standardised way. There are many designs to be found around the world and this meeting will look at the history, development and future use of thermometer screens.
This is a National meeting held jointly between the History of Meteorology and Physical Oceanography Special Interest Group and Met Observing systems Special Interest Group.
