The Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission core satellite passed directly over Tropical Cyclone Winston on 20th February, just after the cyclone made landfall on the north coast of Viti Levu Island; the largest and most populated island in Fiji. Read more about Tropical Cyclone Winston.

NASA's Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) is an international satellite mission with the aim of providing observations of rain and snow worldwide every three hours. It measures precipitation using both passive microwave (GMI) and radar (DPR) instruments.

The GPM mission contributes to advancing our understanding of Earth's water and energy cycles, improves the forecasting of extreme events that cause natural disasters, and extends current capabilities of using satellite precipitation information to directly benefit society.
