Early career scientists conducting research in the field

Travel support available for early career scientists

13 March 2024

Early career scientists conducting research or study in meteorology or an associated discipline at a centre of excellence outside their own countries can once again benefit from travel support afforded by the Rupert Ford Travel Award.

The generous fund was set up by Rupert’s family, friends and colleagues to honour the name of the late Dr Rupert Ford, whose brilliant scientific career was cut short by illness.

The RMetS has recently revised its definition of “early career” to enable a wider range of weather and climate researchers and professionals to access the Society's Early Careers resources and support.

Applicants do NOT need to be members of the Royal Meteorological Society and can come from any part of the world.

The awards are competitive and dependent upon the quality of the applications. Up to two awards may be made and the value of each award for 2024 will be in the order of £1,500.
