Society Membership renewals are open

21 February 2019

The Society is grateful to all our Member who have paid their annual subscriptions for 2019.  Renewals remain open. Our members are crucial to supporting the Society’s activities, and members are entitled to receive many benefits including a monthly Weather journal, access to travel and support grants, and online access to all of the Society journals for only an additional £10 per year.

The Royal Meteorological Society is the UK’s Professional and Learned Society for weather and climate and its mission is “to promote the understanding and application of meteorology for the benefit of all”. At the heart of this is the responsibility for the stewardship of both the profession and science of meteorology.

The Society’s mission has a wide remit that looks to support people’s understanding, interest and enthusiasm in weather and climate, whether they are research scientists, amateur meteorologists, operational meteorologists, consultants, teachers or members of the public. It goes further, supporting the development of high-quality science, the next generation of scientists, professional development of individuals, accrediting further and higher education courses, informing policy and supporting learning in weather and climate through education and outreach activities. It delivers charitable activities to support the wider community, including a Climate Negotiations Resource for schools.

Membership fees enable the Society to deliver more of these important activities.

Members personally benefit in several ways. In addition to receiving Weather and access all the Society’s journals online for only £10 per year they may also be eligible funding to attend conferences or to carry out research through our Legacies and Carers’ funds. The Society offers a wide range of discounts on books, when publishing in our scientific journals, and merchandise including the Society’s 2019 calendar, featuring the Weather Photographer of the Year finalists. Members gain exclusive access to ACCSYS, the Society’s online continuing professional development system. By joining the 100s of other members already using the system, and members may also be eligible to become a Registered or Chartered Meteorologist.

The membership year runs from 1st January – 31st December, and 2019 membership subscription fees for 2019 are now due. Members can renew online today.  If this is the first time logging in to the new site (since September 2018), they will need to reset their password.

Student and Early Career Members pay a much reduced rate, and other Members not receiving other discounts can save 20% on their fees by choosing to take Weather online only.

The Society encourages our members to set up payment by direct debit.  It reduces administration costs and saves our members time in future years.

Members who are UK taxpayers can also add gift aid to their payment, as long as they do not claim their subscription back from their employers.
