The passing of Graham Parker

4 January 2023

The Society is sad to hear of the passing of one of our longest-serving members, Graham Parker. Graham was a Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society and had joined in 1953. He was known to many at the Society and a familiar face to many more, having been one of the very first BBC weather presenters.

A lifelong meteorologist, Graham worked for the civil service and Met Office in London, Malta, Gibraltar and East Anglia. Graham presented the weather initially on national BBC TV and radio in the 60s and early 70s and was appointed manager of Norwich Weather Centre in 1984 and later appeared for a number of years as BBC Norwich’s weather presenter on Look East. His love of the weather never diminished.

He passed away peacefully on 24 December 2022, aged 90. A funeral service will take place at St Andrew’s Church, Eaton, on Thursday, 19 January, at 2.30 pm. It is requested that flowers are only from immediate family, but donations in lieu, if desired, may be made to The Salvation Army and sent c/o Gordon Barber, Church Lane, Eaton, Norwich. NR4 6NZ.
