RMetS Award Winners 2022

19 July 2023

The Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS) is delighted to announce the Award Winners for 2022, receiving outstanding entries from across the international community including for several new awards.

The Royal Meteorological Society Awards recognise people and teams who have made exceptional contributions relating to weather, climate and associated disciplines. The Awards are considered one of the most prestigious accolades in meteorology, with a history dating back to 1901.

In 2022, RMetS launched its refreshed awards programme, which included new awards to recognise the impact of the meteorological community with regards to education and public engagement.

Among those recognised this year is Professor Michael Edgeworth McIntyre for his outstanding contributions to our understanding of geophysical fluid dynamics and the significant influence he has had on generations of scientists.

Also celebrated are the Energy & Climate Change team at Kirklees Council for their work to become “climate ready” which includes identifying, reporting on and promoting action related to the risks and opportunities of a changing climate in Kirklees, West Yorkshire (also the first time RMetS has presented an award to a local authority), and Dr Ella Gilbert for her important contributions to communicating climate science to broad audiences.

It is also fantastic to see younger scientists recognised for their passion and knowledge in driving the science forward and engaging with new audiences in innovative ways to help find solutions to addressing climate change.

Thank you to all RMetS members, colleagues and associates who nominated individuals for the awards this year. Acceptance messages from all of our recipients are available to read at rmets.org/award-winners-2022.
