RMetS Journals' Impact Factors

21 July 2023

The Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS) continues to publish articles of significance and impact, according to the latest release of the journal Impact Factors, reflecting growing usage and citations across new and established titles.

In May 2022 our publishing partner, Wiley, became a signatory of the Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA), which is a world-wide initiative designed to improve the ways in which the outputs of scholarly research are evaluated.

This puts less emphasis on the impact factor and more on other types of article metrics helping authors gain deeper insights into the impact of their work.

These additional metrics are likely to surpass the importance of the Impact Factor in future years, however for now the Impact Factor remains a familiar and key indicator for many people.

Results

  • Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society saw an increase from 7.237 to 8.9.  The ERA5 global reanalysis (Hersbach et al.) published in May 2020 has undoubtably contributed to the significant increase in Impact Factor for QJ in 2022 and 2023.
  • Geoscience Data Journal saw a slight decline from 3.488 to 3.2.
  • Meteorological Applications rose from 2.451 to 2.7.
  • Atmospheric Science Letters increased from 2.992 to 3.
  • International Journal of Climatology increased from 3.651 to 3.9.
  • Weather saw a slight decline from 2.239 to 1.9.
  • WIREs Climate Change saw a slight decline from 10.072 to 9.2.
